Description

The first Smiling Windmills were erected at Avalon Park in Lower Hutt. They have become a familiar part of the landscape for travelers along Fairway Drive to and from SH 2.

The idea has since been picked up elsewhere in New Zealand, including a set of 'Memory Windmills' at Brick Bay Sculpture Trail, north of Auckland. At Botany Bay east of Sydney there's the 'Sculpture by the Sea' Remembrance Windmill.

Produced to Leon van den Eijkel's basic design, each installation is adapted suit the specific location.
